San Roque

  • About The Barangay

According to our forefathers, the barangay was first named Bario Bagakay. After the Spanish colony, our ancestors changed the name of our village from Barrio Bagakay to Barangay San Roque in honor of our patron saint, Senior San Roque. Presently, the barangay is named San Roque, but a year later, the people in Brgy. Poblacion (people in Lungsod sa Asturias) suffered from an epidemic disease since Sr. San. Roque was known as the patron saint of the sick; the people in Lungsod, Asturias, borrowed the image of Sr. San Roque, and in the Mean Time, they sent their patron saint, Sr. San Jose into our chapel, and the people in Lungsud sa Asturias were cured through their faith in God with the help of Sr. San Roque, and until now, Sr. San Roque never returns to our chapel, and that's why our barangay was named San Roque, but our patron saint is Sr. San Jose.
As of the first inhabitants of the barangay, nobody can determine who they are. Historically, San Roque is one of the 27th Barangay's under the Municipal Government of Asturias, a 3rd (class) municipal under the province of Cebu.
