Meta, the company behind Facebook and Messenger has announced a major shift in how people use its messaging service on computers. Starting April 2026, the dedicated messaging site Messenger.com will no longer let users send or receive messages. Users who try to open the site after that date will be automatically redirected to Facebook’s main messages page instead.
❓What’s Changing
☑️Messenger.com website will stop working for messaging in April 2026.
☑️If you open Messenger.com next month or later on a computer, you’ll be taken to facebook.com/messages to chat instead.
☑️The standalone Messenger desktop app for Windows and Mac was already discontinued in December 2025, meaning it no longer works on computers.
☑️On computers, Facebook’s main website will be the only way to access Messenger chats unless you use the mobile app.
📲What Won’t Change
☑️The Messenger mobile app for iPhone and Android will still work as usual.
☑️If you use Messenger without a Facebook account, you can still chat from your phone.
