Manguiao

During the Spanish regime the first Cabeza was Feliciano Awit called Cabeza Anot by the Folks. The Barrio was formerly called San Jose Del Monte after so many years the name of the barrio was change to BAGAKAY.

The Cabeza was succeeded by Teniente Ining Delfin where during his time a flock of somewhat like birds or mammals having scales, hard sparkling scales called GUIAO. The GUIAO folks flocked in and even used this scales for decoration of the guitars they made. From that time on the barrio folks called The barrio MANGUIAO.

During the Japanese Regime when the second World War broke out last December 8, 1941 the teniente del barrio was Felix Awit in which was automatically made volunteer guard captain. His term end up to 1946. The Municipal councilor assigned to this barrio was Dionesio Perales.

The Barrio teachers during this time was Mr. Wenceslao Bardenas and his wife Mrs. Luisa Aguanta Bardenas and it was during this time the school site was surveyed by certain man named Baltazar.

After the deliberation Teniente Felix Awit was still the Teniente del barrio with Alejandro Diamada as his vice. His term was prolonged when Pres. Ferdinand Marcos was elected President of the Republic of the Philippines last 1965 for one term. During the barrio election last 1969, a new barrio captain was elected. He was Barrio Captain Arsenio Comedia. His term as Barrio Captain last for 11 years.

Then another barrio election was made and Nemesio Tundag was elected as the Barrio Captain. He resigned after serving years and he was replaced by the first councilor Eleazar Awit. Then he met his terulite death during the ten minutes battle of Manguiao against the rebels. He was succeeded by councilor Alejandro Diamada. The Sangguniang Bayan assigned to this barrio during this time was SB Rogelio de Guzman. The term of Pres. Marcos end which was succeeded by Pres. Corazon Aquino due to people power revolution. All Government officials elected were made to resign and OIC replaced then so we have now OIC Barangay Captain Francisco Narvasa for atleast 1 year.

In 1988, the newly elected Barangay Captain ARSENIO U. COMEDIA in his terms in 1988-2000 he got sick and replaced by her 1" councilor HON. CRESENCIO LUCABON 2001-2002. After that the next Barangay Captain is SINFORIANO L. AGUA JR. in her 3 terms start in 2002-2013. Then next Barangay Captain is MARIO D. TUNDAG from 2013-2023. He did not finished his term because he was shot dead last March 14, 2023 and succeeded by his first councilor HILARIO B. GEKIN. Then our new Barangay Captain is ROSALIO M. LUMANDAS JR. who got elected last October 30, 2023 elections.

Manguiao is one of the 27th barangay's under the Municipal Government of Asturias a 3rd (class) municipal under the province of Cebu. Based on the RBI records of first quarter of 2024 has the total populations of 2,179 (1,093 are males and 1,086 females) in seven sitios.

Barangay Manguiao has the total land area of 815 hectares. The Barangay Manguiao is 10km away from the city/municipal hall and it takes 30minutes to reach the barangay hall. It is accessible by motorcycle & multicab as mode of transportation to reach the area. It is bounded on the north by Barangay Agtugop on the east Barangay Magcalape & Barangay Agbanga on the west Barangay Tubod and on the south Barangay Ubogon.
