April 22, 2026

DOST-PAGASA announced that they are upgrading their ENSO Alert and Warning System to “El Niño Alert”, after seeing a high possibility that it will rise further in the following months and possibly continue until early 2027.
According to the agency, El Niño could bring a drier-than-normal weather conditions, including the possibility of a dry spell and drought in some parts of the country. This situation could impact agriculture, water supply, and human livelihoods.
Despite this, DOST-PAGASA also explained that there is a possibility of still experiencing more than normal rainfall in the western part of the country, especially during the Southwest monsoon season.
