The Local Government Unit of Asturias is set to strengthen the safety and security of learners through the implementation of the Safer School Zones (SSZ) under the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Safer Cities and Safer Communities Initiative.

Pursuant to DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2026-037, the initiative promotes coordinated interventions among the Municipal Government, barangays, schools, law enforcement agencies, and other partners to create safer, more orderly, and learner-friendly school environments.

Among the recommended actions are the coordination of Punong Barangays with school officials, the deployment of barangay tanod in designated school areas, and the convening of concerned municipal offices and partner agencies to support the implementation of school zone safety measures.

The LGU will also ensure the proper monitoring and timely submission of the required barangay term reports in accordance with the guidelines prescribed by the DILG.

Through stronger inter-agency and community cooperation, the Municipality of Asturias remains committed to protecting learners and maintaining safe, secure, and orderly surroundings in all school zones.
