About The Barangay
In the annals of history, Barangay Agbanga emerges not merely as a barangay of today but as a testament to the enduring spirit of a community that has weathered the tides of time. Its origins trace back to a humble sitio, nestled among the hills and valleys, where the barangays of Baye, Agtugop, Bairan, and Manguiao came together as one cohesive community. However, as the years unfolded, and the population of this sitio burgeoned, the discerning leaders, under the guidance of the Teniente del Barrio of yesteryears Feliz Villamor, made a momentous decision. They chose to elevate this once modest sitio into a fully-fledged barangay, responding to the growing needs and aspirations of its growing populace. With a united front, they christened the newly formed barangay as "Banganga," inspired by the towering Banganga tree that graced the heart of their community.
As time flowed like a river, Barangay Banganga underwent a metamorphosis, transforming into the barangay we now recognize as barangay Agbanga. The leaders who guided this evolution from its inception until the present day include the likes of Teniente del Barrio Feliz Villamor, Barangay Captain Alfredo "Pedong" Mondreza, Barangay Captain Guillermo Pintor, Barangay Captain Guillermo Jamili, Barangay Captain Napoleon Mag-aso, Barangay Captain Alison Bustillo, Barangay Captain Rodella Bustillo, and the incumbent Punong Barangay Marben Castillano whose serving currently his second term as Punong Barangay. Spanning an impressive 16,000 hectares, Barangay Agbanga is an expansive tapestry of lush landscapes and fertile grounds. Its residents predominantly engage in agriculture, as the barangay stands as a bastion of farming communities in the region. Barangay Agbanga is situated at the center of its neighboring barangays, namely Baye, Bairan, Magcalape, Agtugop, and Sta. Rita, forming an interconnected network that enriches the tapestry of community life.
The current population of Barangay Agbanga as of the year 2023 stands at 1,079 individuals, with a balanced gender distribution of 540 females and 539 males. The barangay is divided into seven sitios or puroks, namely Purok 1 (Lemon), Purok 2 (Ga-ang), Purok 3 (Proper Centro), Purok 4 (Upper Campinoon), Purok 5 (Lower Campinoon), Purok 6 (Capayas), and Purok 7 (Cambalolong). Each sitio contributes to the unique cultural tapestry of Agbanga, reflecting the diversity and richness of its community life. Faith binds the Agbangeños together, with the majority embracing the Catholic religion. Every September 29, the barangay unites in celebration, honoring its patron saint, Snr. San Miguel Arkanghel. This annual festivity is not just a religious event but a manifestation of the deep-rooted cultural and spiritual bonds that define Barangay Agbanga.
The resilient spirit of the Agbangeños echoes through the hills and fields, a testament to the unity and strength that have sustained the community through generations. Barangay Agbanga is not merely a geographic entity; it is a living, breathing testament to the indomitable human spirit that thrives in the embrace of community, culture, and shared history. -
