A total of 342 families whose homes were completely destroyed by Typhoon Tino are set to receive newly constructed houses through a joint initiative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and CARE Philippines, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Asturias.
The plan was finalized during a coordination meeting attended by Mayor Dongkoy Dumdum, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Marianee Gabriel, and Municipal Engineering Office representative Engr. Delfred Baliguat.
The housing initiative aims to provide safe and long-term shelter solutions for families severely affected by the typhoon.
CARE Philippines, a member of the global CARE network operating in more than 100 countries, is known for its work in disaster response, poverty reduction, and community resilience. The organization provides both emergency relief and sustainable development support to vulnerable sectors nationwide.
This project marks the first-ever partnership between CARE Philippines and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the country. Asturias was selected as the sole beneficiary municipality in the entire province for this initial collaboration.
Mayor Dongkoy expressed deep gratitude to the partnering organizations, saying the initiative brings “renewed hope and stability” to families striving to recover from the devastation of Typhoon Tino.
The collaboration was made possible through the efforts of Congresswoman Karen Garcia who facilitated the partnership between the humanitarian organizations and the municipal government.
Further details on beneficiary validation and construction phases will be finalized in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and the Municipal Engineering Office to ensure a transparent and well-managed rollout.
